Hexayurt

In Brief:
This project seeks to provide a low-cost shelter and utilities solution for use in emergency relief and for sustainable housing development for the poorest. Science for Humanity is looking for an affordable, long-term solution which can be manufactured locally and quickly using simple tools, and which would be widely available within the public domain. In addition to other support, Science for Humanity has effectively mobilized its network of scientists to provide materials testing, structural analysis and temperature testing of the prototype shelter.
Category:
Shelter; sustainable housing.
Current Status:
Science for Humanity is facilitating further structural analysis and technical support of the hexayurt for its potential implementation in disaster hit Haiti. It is providing these specifications to organisations that are considering construction of the hexayurt as a sustainable alternative to tents. In particular Science for Humanity is organising solvers to improve the structural plans of the hexayurt for Haiti's impending hurricane season.
